I have begun to work on Switch again, since my Internet has been out at home and, apparently, I have nothing better to do.
I find it interesting how I go through phases with my fandoms and my writing. Some people I know just stay in fandoms forever and ever, and some people I know jump back and forth like nothing I've ever seen before. I? Am sort of an in-between.

So, it's an interesting phenomenon. I wonder if I'll cycle back to FFVI soon, or if my interest in FFX-2 will come back. I really need to finish Switch for the love of my readers, so I'd better at least regain some interest in that fandom. I finished the second chapter of the second part last night, so it is at least continuing. I think I can finish it soon. It won't really take much -- three or four more chapters, I think, should do it. It was going to be much longer and more involved, but I think I can shorten it up a little.
Also on the horizon is the final epilogue to The Confessional, which is titled Vydran. It needs to be smoothed out a LOT before it can be posted, but I kind of enjoy its disjointedness. I've worked on it on and off over the past couple of months.
I haven't posted anything at FF.net in a while. I really should.

Good evening, kiddos. I just wanted to let you know that I have officially now posted Handshake, a Wakka/Tidus fic that I've been working on for more than a year and a half. Well, I haven't been continuously working on it... more like I've had spurts of working on it. It's an old fic and you can tell, but I know lots of people liked it, so I'm posting it officially.

hellbait, taydrcaagan, owlmoose@LJ, and I have put together for the FFX-2 fandom.
We have documented, in journal style, the days of the Crimson Squad training camp. Each one of us wrote a journal document from the point of view of Baralai, Nooj, Paine, and Gippal (respectively), and we've put it all together in a gigantic working website now.

See Baralai come of age, Nooj learn compassion, Paine find loyalty, and Gippal... well, who knows what Gippal's doing. He's putting lots of things in his pants, that's for sure. Yes, and there's slash of the Gippalai type!

This is an epilogue to The Confessional, which you can read all of here... assuming the site still works... o.O;;
It's really hard to write stuff like this. This is a working version, jut put out here for comments and thoughts. Yeah, I know, I hardly mention Nooj or Baralai at all. In fact, Baralai gets all of one passing mention (except for the end) and Nooj doesn't get talked about at all. Come on, guys, it's been over 100 years since they died. LOL. Anyway, let me know if this sucks, alright? I think it kinda does... but... eh. >.>;

Shipboard Computer is a Firefly post-Serenity fanfic. If you're interested, go read. This was catharsis for me... it helped me deal with an untimely death. It was quickly-written, so forgive me. I just felt that if I needed to do this, maybe other people need to read it.

I have a whole new fic up at Fanfiction.net entitled Such Great Heights. It's a 5-chapter SquallxSelphie fic as requested by Jez for the Hurricane Katrina fic-for-charity drive. Go on and read it, it's a quick little fluffy read. The song is, of course, by the Postal Service, though this is hardly a songfic, I just used lyrics for chapter titles. Because I wanted to. Wee.

And now, for something completely different.
Recently, I've been working on more academic writing... not that anyone who reads this really cares about such things, but, well, this is a writing journal, so I'll write about writing.
The problem with writing academic papers is that I have to resist being overtly creative. I can't be sarcastic, I can't be witty, and I can't even throw in a touch of humor... it's all just BANG BANG BANG thesis, facts, conclusion.
Anyway, my paper is on the etymology of the word 'slut' and how, by looking at its current status of somewhere between Standard English and slang, we can get a vivid picture of the way American views of prostitution and promiscuity have changed throughout the ages. Here, I'll give you an excerpt of the third part of my paper which attempts to connect slang to status:

That's, essentially, the thesis of my paper. I need to add some more into it, but I have about ten days before I have to turn it in, so here's hoping. I have an impressive bibliography -- eleven sources, ranging from modern books on prostitution to Middle English dictionaries -- and I think I have a solid foundation. I've written the bulk of the paper today, so I just need to supplement it with a few extra facts and some citations from dictionaries and I'll be good to go. Currently, it stands at 2500 words, nine pages double-spaced, and it's looking good. I'm hoping that this will be one of the best papers I've ever written. (w00t)

I have just posted a new FFX-2 story -- Another Confessional -- at FF.net. It is a meta-fic of taydrcaagan's The Confessional from another viewpoint. I think it should be fun to see those two side by side... if I can keep up. My words pale in comparison to hers.
Still working on Switch, don't worry. A very long chapter is still in the works... I haven't been happy with it, so I've actually been revising it a number of times. (You can all die of shock now... RyRy... revising?? o.O) I think you'll all like it when it gets up.
Yes, still writing, writing, writing. I'm happy to have my time for writing back. I thought it was all gone there for a while. =)
